Formento’s is an Italian restaurant in the center of Chicago. The restaurant offers traditional Italian dishes cooked to family recipes. The place was opened in honor of John Ross’s Nonna Formento who was co-owner’s grandmother. The Chef is Tony Quartaro. The restaurant is rather spacious (8,000 sq.ft.)and can accommodate to 200 guests. If you want cozier intimate atmosphere you should go up to the loft that overlooks Restaurant Row. It is provided with a private bar and has separate entrance.
Formento’s offers a huge wine list with approximately 600 labels.
The design is beautiful and looks noble. Exposed red brick columns beside the seating banquette area with mahogany leather upholstery look great and feature old-school vibe. Wood trim elegantly puts this section apart. Red-dome chandeliers in the dining room provide warm lighting and make the place even cozier. The family photos in black and white decorate the walls and seem to accentuate the commitment to traditions and family values. The atmosphere created here return us back to the 50-s of the last century.
The place is surely notable in Chicago’s dining scene due to aplomb and chic you will not find in red sauce joints. Rethinking old-school Italian style, the venue brings some nostalgia.
The popularity of this restaurant demonstrates that old values are still popular and Americans love old-school Italian food. In spite of numerous Italian restaurants, we are never tired of new variations of traditional meals.
Sunday gravy is great. The price is $16. You can also try shrimp scampi for $29, half chicken Parmesan for $27, pink quail breasts stuffed with sage, wrapped in prosciutto for $29. Leave some room for a chocolate cake – it’s fantastic. All dishes are delicious. You can also order gluten free dishes in the restaurant.
The service is impeccable. Private events and parties for 20-200 guests are organized in the loft.
